Gliwice and Silesia
Gliwice is a city located in a part of Upper Silesia region - the urban organism inhabited by ca. 2 million people and created by 14 cities in the south-western part of Poland, within the territory of the Province of Silesia. The town of Gliwice occupies the surface area of 134,2 km2 and has the population of over 170 thousands. For the last years Gliwice has become one of the most modern cities of the region. The town houses the Silesian University of Technology, units of Polish Academy of Sciences: the Institute of Theoretical and Applied Informatics, the Institute of Chemical Engineering, Institute of Nonferrous Metals, Centre of Polymer and Carbon Materials and many others. Gliwice is also a rich cultural centre and promotes sport and recreation life. For bringing research results closer to the social and economic practice in all of the Silesia region, there is The Scientific Technological Park (TechnoPark) in Gliwice, which conducts activity in the field of research services, takes part in the implementation of innovative activities and provides entrepreneurs with lease area, services supporting business activity and help to acquire funds for innovative development.
